Allergy Shots

Allergy Shots, also known as Immunotherapy, are a popular service in our office. Unfortunately for many Nashvillians, seasonal allergies and asthma are often a part of day-to-day life. Due to the unique geography in the Tennessee midstate, allergens from blooming trees, grasses, molds, and pets get trapped in our local atmosphere and can cause significant respiratory symptoms.

For some people, the ongoing congestion, runny nose, shortness of breath, wheezing, and sinus drainage can impact their daily life. For these patients, it is reasonable to consider allergy shots.

As detailed in the photos above, to get started on allergy shots, first you need to get tested to see what your allergens are. If you have been tested before, but are new to Nashville or it has sbeen several years, it is reasonable to consider repeating your testing to see if your allergies have changed.

Once your allergies have been identified, you can discuss with Dr. Robert Valet, our board-certified allergist, whether allergy shots are right for you. If you decide to move ahead with the shots, Dr. Valet custom mixes your shots himself and you come to the office for a series of appointments over time to help your body build up tolerance, or immunity, to your allergens.

Our shot clinic is open Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 and Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Although you are free to walk in at any time for your shot, we do encourage that you call us to schedule ahead so that we can plan for your visit to keep your time in our office to a minimum.

If you are interested in learning whether allergy shots are right for you, call us at 615-212-3012 to schedule an appointment and evaluation. If you would like to be tested at the same time as your consultation, it is very important that you stay off all antihistamines for 10 days before your appointment! This includes Benadryl, Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra, Xyzal, Atarax (hydroxyzine) and their generic equivalents.
